The mission of the College of Optometry is to prepare, educate and train optometric physicians to practice at the highest level of proficiency, integrity, and professionalism; and to provide a multidisciplinary environment that encourage scholarly activity, lifelong learning, and service. Forty-six full-time faculty members provide outstanding and dedicated training to our students. We are proud to live and work in the south Florida community and provide eye care to this diverse area. We strive to attract students from across the United States, Canada and beyond. While 45% of our student come from the “sunshine state” of Florida, over 40 different US States are represented in our student population with the highest populations coming from – California, New York, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania. Canada is well represented with approximately 10% of our student population coming from 5 different Canadian provinces. The diversity of our classes truly reflects our local community with over 21% of our students being self-described as Black/African American or Hispanic/Latino or American Indian/Alaska Native. Applicants to our program are considered “competitive” applicants with Optometry Admissions Test (OAT) scores of 320 or above and grade point averages (GPA) of 3.4 or above.
